Car-Free Days

WE DO THIS EVERY THE FIRST SUNDAY IN MARCH, APRIL, SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER...

Sebastopol’s Car-Free Day Celebration, Sunday, October x, 201x, 10 am-1pm

Our goal is to again get 1,000 people to downtown Sebastopol without their cars!!!

We encourage you to wear green or orange and/or wear a “Car-Free today!” note or sign. Participants will receive raffle tickets for Farmers Market discount coupons, free Community Bike classes or shop time and more! Be sure to check in at the Car-Free Table!

LITE/Car-Lite, Transition Sebastopol and the Sebastopol Farmers’ Market invite you, your family and friends to visit the Market and take part in the following car-lite activities:

Half-Mile From Downtown Walk with Mayor Sarah Gurney, about 3.5 miles, 10 am
Join Sebastopol Mayor Sarah Gurney and walk to four well-known destinations that are only 1/2 mile from The Plaza, the distance that experts say most people are willing to travel on foot. You’ll experience how within reach these places are! The circuit will take in the old industrial area, a bit of bike trail, a hidden alley way, the Laguna Uplands, one hill, the older neighborhoods, to a little-known pathway that descends back to the start. Expect to return in time to enjoy lunch at the Farmers’ Market and watch the kids’ bike parade. Bring water, snacks, a hat and sunscreen.

Kids Bike Parade with the Hub Bub Club Street Band, 12 – 1pm
Line up at Skategarden, travel down Laguna Parkway to Town Plaza and through the Farmers’ Market.

Please travel by foot, skates, skateboard, bike or any other kind of human powered transit. If you live out of town, consider parking near a bike path and walking or riding in from there; carpooling is also an environmentally friendly option.

The City of Sebastopol passed a car-free resolution on April 20, 2010. Yea!!!
